Students are being urged to 'avoid cramming' ahead of the start of the Leaving Cert exams tomorrow.

Leaving Certs are being encouraged to use today as a time to relax ahead of the start of the exams.

For the first time, many students have a choice of taking a calculated grade or sitting the written exam.

English Paper 1 and Home Economics will get the State Exams underway.

Most students will have the choice of accepting a calculated grade or the mark they get in the written exam.

Students have been encouraged to use this evening to prepare themselves physically and mentally.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister says she’s not concerned about grade inflation with this year’s Leaving Cert.

Students have the option of sitting exams, accepting calculated grades or a combination of both.

But Norma Foley says that everyone involved in the grading process is a professional and there are strong guidelines in place to ensure the process is done fairly.
