A group from Ballyhaunis GAA Club in Mayo have come together to organise a unique fundraising event.

'Hurling for Hope' will see clubmates take on a 100km “solo” challenge.

They'll solo a hurling ball from the Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Castlebar to Mayo Roscommon Hospice in Roscommon.

Keith Higgins, and clubmates, will pass through Claremorris, Ballyhaunis and Castlerea to carry the sliotar 100km.

On their journey, they'll be joined by current and past GAA players along the way.

The event will take place over four days starting on Wednesday 23rdMarch and finishing on Saturday 26th March.

The creative, Hurling for Hope fundraiser was launched in January in Croke Park with the help of some well-known sports personalities.

Jacqui Hurley RTE Sport launched the initiative, alongside Keith Higgins, former Mayo footballer and Tom Parsons CEO GPA.

All donations will be divided evenly between the two charities.

To support the unique fundraiser for two great causes, you can do one of the following:

  • Cheque made payable to either Mayo Roscommon Hospice or IMNDA and posted to Keith Higgins, 49, Hazel Hill Downs, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
  • Or pop over to the idonatepage here.

As well as Hurling for Hope, there are a few other fundraising events taking place, such as an “online challenge” and “schools jersey day”.
