Aldi and Lidl are recalling batches of hummus over fears they could be contaminated with salmonella.
In Aldi, two Deli brand triple packs and another topped with pesto and parmesan are affected.
Lidl is recalling its Meadow Fresh red pepper hummus and its classic stacker.
The products include:
- Aldi Deli Brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack (3x60g). Use by date: 3/11/2019.
- Aldi Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack (3x60g) . Use by dates: 2/11/2019 and 3/11/2019.
- Aldi Deli brand Basil Houmous topped with Pesto and Parmesan (170g). Use by date: 4/11/2019.
- Lidl Meadow Fresh brand Red Pepper Houmous (170g). Use by date: 6/11/2019.
- Lidl Meadow Fresh brand Classic Houmous stacker (3x60g). Use by date: 6/11/2019.
"People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours," said the FSAI.
"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.
"The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness."
