Heading on hols this year?

Almost 1 in 4 Irish consumers can't afford a holiday this year.

The new KBC Ireland survey found 23 percent of people aren't planning on getting away in 2022. That's up from 19 percent last year.

Those who are planning a holiday expect to spend roughly the same as last year.

The study also showed that 30 per cent of those who left education at lower second level said they couldn’t afford a holiday in 2019.

That's compared to 14 per cent of those with degree level or higher.

Chief Economist with KBC Ireland Austin Hughes says many middle aged people are cutting back on holidays as other necessary expenses mount up.

"People who've been reporting the greatest financial difficulty over the last couple of years tend to be people in their 40s and 50s."

"It's where family expenses, mortgage, kid's education, the general living costs tend to be the most extreme relative to incomes," he added.
