Hint: we love our onions!
The country's favourite sandwich is officially a ham, cheese and onion toastie.
Research by the Irish Bread Bakers Association shows it comes top of the pile with almost a quarter of the votes while the classic ham and cheese took the second spot with 19% opting for it.
Nostalgia was the main reason people loved the reliable ham and cheese sandwich, with 31% of people stating that it reminded them of their childhood. Another firm favourite from back in the day was the jam and butter sandwich - 34% of respondents said that was the sambo that reminded them of their youth.
The survey comes ahead of 'World Sandwich Day' this Sunday.
