Throwback Thursday. The Greatest Day In Irish Sport 21/03/2009

The 21st of March 2009 has been dubbed the greatest day in Irish Sport and The AO Show were throwing it back to two very special moments that happened in Rugby and Boxing.

Ireland Win The Grand Slam after 61 years

Wales took on Ireland in their final match and it was spine-tingling stuff from start to finish. Captain Brian O'Driscoll ignited the Irish team with a pick and go try followed by an amazing try from Tommy Bowe effort to make it 6-14 in Ireland's favour.

However, Wales had not given up and two penalties from Stephen Jones brought the Welsh team back within reach to 12-14.

Battle of the Drop Goals. Jones versus O'Gara

Stephen Jones managed an incredible drop goal in minute 76 which seems to seal the deal for Wales as they charged into the lead but Ronan O'Gara stepped up to the challenge to pull off a drop goal of his own to make it 15-17.

There was another dramatic twist as Ireland conceded a las minute penalty and it was all down to Jones to send it over the bar AND HE MISSED!!!!

Bernard Dunne's Big Win At The 3 Arena

That was not the only magical win on the 21st of March 2009

That night Bernard Dunne faced Ricardo Cordoba from Panama in the 3 Arena. The atmosphere was electric. Bernard took Cordoba out in the 3rd round and Cordoba had Bernard Dunne out in the 5th round.
