After a brief taste of summer it looks like we're in for a decent week of weather.

If there's one surefire way to lift your mood on a Monday, it's the prospect of good weather for the week ahead.

And Met Eireann's latest forecast is certainly promising.

The national forecaster has said we can expect ''a lot of dry weather'', with varying cloud cover, ''but some sunny spells most days.''

Temperatures will be around normal for this time of year if not slightly above, generally hovering around the ''high teens and locally the low twenties.''

Here's the day by day breakdown:

Monday (today): Most places will be dry this afternoon and evening with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, warmest in the south and southeast.

Tuesday: Tuesday will be ''mainly dry with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, warmest in Munster and south Leinster,'' says Met Eireann.

Wednesday: This should be a good one, at this stage Wednesday should be ''mainly dry and bright, some cloudy periods, but sunny spells at times too. Top temperatures 18 to 21 C''.

Thursday: Thursday will be a bit cloudy over Ulster, but brighter elsewhere with a mix of sunny spells and cloudy periods. Top temperatures of 17 to 19 C, in northern areas, but 20 to 22 C in most other counties.

Friday: Friday will be similar to Thursday temperature wise, however with the possibility of a little rain at times. Highs of 16 to 18 C in northern areas, but 19 to 22 C elsewhere.

Saturday and Sunday: And finally the all important weekend! The good news is that it should be mostly dry with Temperatures around normal for July or slightly above.

Not bad at all! We'll take it.
