Would this be a good addition to Galway's famous pub scene?
It appears Galway City could be getting a Whetherspoons, after reports the UK pub chain has purchased Carbon Nightclub on Eglinton Street for €2.5m.
The iconic student nightclub posted on social media that it was shutting it's doors after nine years in an emotional post yesterday.
It read: "We have thoroughly enjoyed nine prosperous years operating as one of Galway's best-loved student nightclubs.
"For many of you, Carbon represents fond memories of your time spent in Galway and we would like to sincerely thank you for your patronage over the years, without you it just wouldn't have been possible. It has been a pleasure to have been part of your journey and we have made some great friends along the way.
"Of course, without our amazing staff, none of this would have been possible. We would like to thank each and every one of our staff members over the years for their hard work, loyalty and dedication. It is fair to say that a Carbon family now exists and friends have been made for life.
"Finally, we would like to wish the new owners every success in the future and we have no doubt that they will further enhance Galway's bustling nightlife."
