Galway 2020 preparations are hitting high gear.

Not to be rude to 2019 or anything, but if it could just hurry up and finish that'd be fantastic.

Because we really can't stand the wait for the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture celebrations much longer.

We've already had the official launch back on September 18th in Eyre Square, which was spectacular and raised excitement to serious levels.

But it definitely left us wanting more.

Thankfully as an official radio station of Galway 2020, we've been given another little sneak preview.

Our Kate O'Malley and the iRadio Peugot iTeam caught up with CEO Patricia Philbin and told us about the hype around the celebrations, especially among volunteers:

''I think people are starting to realise the scale of what's about to happen in Galway, and how they can all participate and enjoy it,'' she said.

''Since the launch we've had a huge surge in volunteering we're up to 540 now.

''So there's great opportunities not just for people to view what's a bout to happen, but to actually participate in it''.

If you think you'd like to meet, greet, discover and share unforgettable experiences as a volunteer at Galway 2020, you can find out more here.

The evening vibe on shop street is something else.

Galway, one of the very best.

And just when you thought there couldn't possibly be any more hype surrounding the City of Tribes for next year... Galway goes and gets itself awarded the forth hottest city to visit in the world for 2020!

The city has taken fourth spot in Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel 2020 guide – an annual collection of the best destinations, journeys and experiences.

Lonely Planet describes Galway as ''brilliantly bohemian” and arguably Ireland’s “most engaging city''.

Ms. Philbin shared her delight at the news of Galway's high ranking: ''The Lonely Planet Best in Travel accolade is a fantastic endorsement of this incredible place on the western edge of Ireland and at the heart of Europe.

''As 2020 approaches we are inviting people from right around the world to come and experience Galway in this special year''.

We couldn't agree more.

In the meantime all we can do is wait for 2019 to kindly step aside so the fun can begin!
