Reports of false positives from the Genrui covid antigen tests are being examined.

The Health Products Regulatory Agency says it is following up with the manufacturer of the test to investigate the matter.

The HPRC says it will also liaise with other European competent authorities in relation to the issue.

Meanwhile, the HSE says it hopes to triple its capacity for antigen testing this week, as cases continue to rise. 350, 000 antigen tests are set to be posted out to people under 40 who display symptoms, or are a close contact.

This follows new guidelines which encourage those in that age group to produce a positive antigen test before requesting a PCR.
