Sun and showers ... your typical festival forecast!
Festival-goers are being encouraged to leave plenty of time to get to the picnic this weekend.
Organisers say you should set off as early as possible on Friday to make sure you've plenty of time to pitch the tent and be ready for the first acts. David Keenan is the first artist to take to the main stage at 6pm, followed by Billie Eilish at 7.30pm.
Traffic
As with any major event like this, there's bound to be a few delays. The biggest tailbacks will on the major routes towards Stradbally on the N80 and around Portlaoise too. The main advice is to leave plenty of time to get there and follow signs for the festival rather than your Google Maps or sat nav - as the signage will be more accurate.
Aisling Bonner of AA Roadwatch says:
“We advise festival-goers to leave plenty of time to travel to Stradbally this weekend – if you’re heading down on Friday then leave early in the day if you can.
"Extra traffic can be expected around Portlaoise, and on the N80 through Stradbally throughout the weekend. As you near the festival site, carparks will be clearly signposted, so follow signage rather than your sat nav.
"Motorists travelling through Kildare on the M7 should bear in mind that three lanes are now open on the motorway between J8 Johnstown and J11 M9; however, the speed limit is still at 80km on that stretch. For live traffic updates throughout the day, keep an eye on the AA Roadwatch Newsroom online (www.TheAA.ie/Newsroom) and @aaroadwatch on Twitter.”
Garda Inspector Eamonn Curley added that:
“An Garda Síochána have a comprehensive and well- honed traffic plan in place for Electric Picnic. We would ask people to follow the directions of Gardaí and stewards, that they follow signage for event and that they do not use Sat Nav.
"Please leave in plenty of time when travelling to event and read the Garda Trafffic Plan. For more information please see Garda Síochána Laois Offaly on Facebook or follow the hashtag, #GardaSíochánaLaoisOffaly.”
Weather
Organisers are advising festival-goers to pack both sunscreen and rain gear and prepare for any eventuality. The weather looks like it'll be a mixed bag with both showers and sunny spells predicted over the three days. Here's the latest forecast from Met Eireann:
Friday
Friday will be very wet for much of the country. Eastern areas may start out fairly dry but rain over Atlantic coastal counties will spread to most parts during the course of the day, with some heavy falls expected in parts and top temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees. Friday night will be very wet with a crisk of spot flooding.
Saturday
So far, it looks like Saturday will be slighly better. The heavy rain from overnight will gradually give way to bright or sunny spells and scattered showers with highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees.
Sunday
Fresh and cool on Sunday with sunny spells and scattered showers. Again some of the showers could be heavy with the risk of hail and thunder and top temperatures of just 14 to 17 degrees.
