The restrictions that remain include mask-wearing and Covid certs for foreign travel.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has confirmed that most Covid restrictions will end from 6am tomorrow.
This will include the curfew on hospitality, capacity limits at live events and sports fixtures. It also means the end of social distancing.
Bars and restaurants no longer will have to abide by the 8pm closing time. Limits on capacity are also being scrapped as well as the rules on how many can sit at a table. The requirement for bars and restaurants to check Covid certs is also gone.
Nightclubs can also reopen from tomorrow night.
There will be no limits on household gatherings and no capacity limits on indoor or outdoor events either.
A phased return to the office for workers can also begin from Monday.
One rules that remains in place includes the requirement for facemasks. That is staying until at least the end of February, with masks expected to be worn in settings including schools.
Covid certs will also still be needed for international travel.
In his speech this evening, the Taoiseach remarked that “today is a good day.”
He added that, “we have weathered the Omicron storm.”
