Five parishes are making plans to go ahead with Holy Communions and Confirmations against current government and public health advice.
The Bishop of Raphoe is the latest church leader to defy the ban on holding the sacraments in his diocese.
Last week the Bishop of Elphin, Kevin Doran announced that his parish would be facilitating sacraments for kids making their first Communion or Confirmation.
Since then Bisohops in Clogher, Meath, Raphoe and Waterford and Lismore have also said they plan to go ahead with the religious celebrations.
The current government public health advice is that Communions and Confirmations should not take place. They also have no timeline available for when it will be deemed safe to do so.
At the moment,religious services including wedding and funerals can take place with up to 50 people allowed in churches.
Baptisms have also been given the go ahead from this Thursday. However, public health officials are appealing to families to avoid arranging parties afterwards.
