The Bishop of Waterford and Linsmore Alphonsus Cullinan has written to the staff of schools across the county to warn against the practice and teaching of yoga and mindfulness.
The Waterford News & Star has reported that a number of schools have confirmed to have received the letter which states that “yoga is not of Christian origin” and is not suitable for a parish school setting.
The Bishop goes on to quote a homily by Pope Francis in 2015, saying that even a million courses in yoga, Zen and spirituality "will never be able to give you freedom" and that practices like yoga "are not capable of opening our hearts up to God".
