From Monday, households will get the credit.

A proposal was put forward at the start of the year to cut €100 off our energy bills this Spring.

With the rising cost of living, the credit was increased to €200.

And it's been confirmed that households will start to receive the credit from this Monday.

But with some energy suppliers raising the bills by over 20%, there are fears the credit won't even cover one month's bill for some.

In March, it was reported that Energia was to increase home energy prices by 15% in April.

While around the same time, Electric Ireland said the average bill would go up by 23.4 per cent or €24.80 a month and the average gas bill will go up by 24.8 per cent or €18.35 a month.

And just yesterday, SSE Airtricity's announced price hikes from May 1st.

Their residential electricity prices are rising by 24%, while the cost of gas will rise by 32.3%.

It's estimated that the average annual electricity bill has increased by 25% to €1,600.

Yesterday, it was reported the Government is considering introducing new “time of day pricing” measures, to help bring down energy bills.

If introduced, it would see the cost of running appliances reduced at certain times – such as late at night or in the middle of traditional working hours.
