Most city councils have no plans to fence off public areas over bank holiday

Most city councils say they have no plans to fence off areas ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

The majority are installing extra bins and stepping up cleaning operations to deal with large crowds that gather.

The debate kicked off an number of weeks ago after a plaza in Dublin was closed off following resident backlash to large crowds drinking in the area.

The Port of Cork is planning to fence off parts of the city centre quays this weekend.

But Lord Mayor of Cork, Joe Kavanagh, says the council wants people to enjoy the city safely:
