Man in his 30s arrested over Ashling Murphy's murder

He was being treated in a Dublin hospital since last Thursday.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Ashling Murphy.

He had been treated in a Dublin hospital since last Thursday after suffering self-inflicted injuries.

The male is now detained in Tullamore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The 23-year-old was killed last Wednesday while out for a run at a canal bank near Tullamore in County Offaly.

Ashling's funeral took place in Mountbolus earlier today. She was remembered as a woman who lived her short life to the full and who brought happiness to others.

The 23 year old's funeral mass was attended by the President, Taoiseach as well as the Justice, Education and Arts Ministers.
