''This targeting of gards because of their job is quite concerning.''
A recent attack on a Garda car is worrying for all members of the force, according to the Garda Representation Association.
The comments come after a car owned by a Garda was set on fire outside the Bridewell Garda Station in Dublin last night.
A technical examination is taking place, and gardai are treating it as criminal damage.
President of the Garda Representative Association, Jim Mulligan, says it's a worrying trend.
''If it happened to me or you or anyone else it would be on your mind - what's going to happen next? Or why was this done?'', he said.
''It is a very worrying development, and the prevalence of them in recent years or months is becoming more and more of a concern for our members.
''This targeting of gards because of their job is quite concerning. We've seen it online as well where gards are targeted simply for carrying our their function''.
