Workers are to be given a legal right to disconnect under new Government plans.

The National Remote Work Strategy will also give employees the right to request to work from home.

The Tanaiste and Business Minister says the pandemic has shown us that there are huge benefits to working from home, such as less time commuting and reduced emissions.

The strategy aims to legislate to give employees the right to request to work from home and give workers a legal right to disconnect.

It also promises to explore the possibility of accelerating the national broadband plan.

Peter Cosgrove from Futurewise says it will give people more flexibility:

"We're giving people the ability maybe not to all have to work in Dublin or giving the people, hopefully, more trust in their staff".

The Government says it will lead by example by mandating that home and remote working should be the norm for 20% of public sector employees.
