But there are some chilly nights ahead.

It looks like we might finally get a decent weekend of weather, with Met Éireann predicting warmer temperatures for this Saturday and Sunday.

The national forecaster is predicting a dry, warm and sunny weekend, with Munster and Leinster to get the best of the weather.

Temperatures in the south and east will peak at 20C on Saturday and 21C on Sunday, however it may be a little cooler in the west and north.

For Saturday, a spokesman said: "A largely dry Saturday across the country with a mix of cloud and some sunny spells, and just isolated light showers.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 or 20 degrees Celsius (best values across Leinster and the east of Munster), in just light westerly breezes.

"Generally dry overnight with clear spells, before patchy rain and drizzle arrives into west and northwest fringes towards morning.

For Sunday, he added: "Current indications suggest Sunday will be mainly dry and mild across much of Munster and Leinster with sunny spells; highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees Celsius.

"However, it will be cloudier across the north and west with outbreaks of rain gradually moving in off the Atlantic; highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees Celsius."

Chilly nights ahead.

Despite the prospect of warmer weather on the weekend, we are in for some colder nights in the immediate short term.

Tonight (Thursday) will be mostly dry with clear spells but some showers will still occur in the east and northwest.

With brisk lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, possibly dipping lower locally, in light to moderate northwesterly breezes.

While Friday night will be even colder again, with Met Éireann expecting it to be: ''Chilly for early July with lowest temperatures 4 to 9 degrees Celsius in light northerly breezes''.

Current indications for next week are for some rain on Monday with changeable conditions into midweek.
