Covid-19 restrictions have been updated.
The government has today updated some of the measures concerning Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland.
At a press briefing, Taoiseach, Micheál Martin and Cabinet colleagues announced the following:
- All sporting events are to take place behind closed doors without spectators.
- Gatherings will be limited to 6 people from three households. This applies to both indoor and outdoor gatherings in the home.
- Gyms are still open but classes are limited to no more than six people.
- Outdoor events will be limited to 15 people. Sports teams should also follow this guide for training purposes.
- All businesses should facilitate working from home, where possible.
- People should avoid public transport.
- Pubs and restaurants to close by 11:30pm.
- Over 70s are being asked to limit their contacts and to shop at designated times.
- Legislation is also being considered to give Gardaí greater powers to enforce these measures.
These measures are set to remain in place until September 13th. The Government say they will finalise and publish a roadmap before that date. Taoiseach Micheál Martin said that map will plan out how Irish people will live with the virus going forward.
At the briefing, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly also confirmed that 190 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the Republic of Ireland today.
We're also being warned to be extra careful about social distancing, even if it's friends or family we're meeting. 62% of positive tests recorded in the last fortnight have been linked to close contacts with a confirmed case.
