The US election is just one month away.

Donald Trump has become the 8th world leader to test positive for Covid-19, with his diagnosis coming just one month before the US election on the 3rd of November.

Donald and Melania Trump are self-isolating at the White House after they both tested positive for coronavirus.

The US President tweeted the news this morning and said that his wife Melania has also been infected.

Both are said to be asymptomatic with the First Lady confirming that they are both feeling good.

The positive tests come after it was confirmed that White House Advisor Hope Hicks has the virus.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters he's also been checked as a precaution.

Donald Trump is the oldest President to hold the office in US history and despite his doctor saying he is well and will continue his duties.

The news comes after Donald Trump has regularly played down the threat posed by the virus, most recently at the Presidential debate earlier this week when he made fun of his rival Joe Biden over wearing a mask.

Statement from White House doctor:

I release the following information with the permission of President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.
The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country's greatest medical professionals and institutions.
Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.
