The Taoiseach has confirmed the re-opening of travel holidays has been delayed.

The cabinet will meet this afternoon to finalise the plans.

The government had said it would publish a Green list of countries safe to fly to from July 9th. That date has now been kicked back until July 20th as the Coronavirus has seen a second wave in countries that would have been considered safe to fly to a few weeks ago.

The government is also placing a priority on getting the schools fully open by September and is reluctant to make any decision that would risk that happening.

Yesterday, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan suggested the list would be a moving document with countries being added or taken off as the medical situation changes.

That poses difficulties for those trying to book holidays as a country may be on the Green list when you leave but removed by the time you get back.

The delay will likely provoke a further attack from airlines, with Ryanair, in particular, criticising the government's cautious approach.

The cabinet is also expected to take stock of the current status of restrictions and the impact the re-opening of much of the economy last week is having on the spread of the Coronavirus.
