Flooding has caused havoc on roads around the country.
Thousands of homes and businesses are without power and a number of roads are closed across the country after Storm Francis.
Severe flooding in Cork has resulted in damage to roads and buildings while flooding has also been reported in Kilkenny, Clare and Longford.
A status orange rain warning is in place across Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal until 6 o'clock this evening.
While a similar yellow alert in place for the rest of the country - while there is also a status yellow wind warnings is in effect for Munster, Dublin, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow.
Director of Emergency Management at the Department of Housing, Planning and local Government, Keith Leanord, says local authorities are working hard.
''We had a meeting with all the local authorities yesterday'', he said.
''Local authority staff, engineering staff and outdoor staff have been on standby in Bantry in particular.
''Outdoor and engineering staff were really working all night. We're in a situation where there's yellow level warnings for wind but the impacts could be what is typically expected in an orange event''.
