September means...

September is here, which means spider season isn't very far away...in fact it may already be here.

Why do we see more spiders around Autumn time? Simply put, it's spider mating season.

According to Professor Hart, an entomologist at the University of Gloucestershire, 80% of the spiders you’ll see this season will be male.

‘’They are on the hunt for mates and females ‘stay put’ indoors, so there is an inevitable influx of home-invading arachnids,’’ he told the BBC.

Still, if the spiders wouldn't mind taking their business somewhere other than our homes, that'd be great.

While they aren't always guaranteed to work, there are a few methods that people say can help keep unwanted eight-legged guests away.

Speaking to ITV recently, Professor James Logan gave his top tips for keeping the arachnids at bay.

  • Clean and do it frequently: The more disturbance in the house the better
  • Block the entry points: Spiders like to build their webs from cracks and crevices on the exterior of homes and other structures.
  • Remove dead insects: Clearing food is not something you need to worry about… clearing up dead insects is.
  • Clear out any old spider webs: Webs or egg sacs could be hiding in dark places like behind the couch or in between cabinets.

If it helps keep them out, we're all ears!
