It's in effect for 24 hours.

Met Eireann has issued a status yellow snow-ice warning for Donegal.

It will be in effect for 24 hours from midnight tonight, bringing heavy wintry showers. A national weather advisory for cold weather will also be in place from 4pm today until Friday night.

We're set for a chilly few days, according to Met Éireann. Here's the latest weather forecast for the rest of the week:

Wednesday

Sunny spells and blustery scattered showers, heaviest and most frequent in the northwest, however becoming more widespread through the day. Some of the showers will turn heavy with the risk of hail with highest temperatures of just 8 degrees. Wednesday night will see widespread showers, especially over the southern half of the country. Some will be heavy and thundery with hail, and some turning to sleet or snow, especially on high ground in the northwest. Cold with lows of 0 degrees.

Thursday

Thursday will be a very cold day with widespread heavy showers in the morning. Showers will gradually become confined to the western half of the country through the morning, with drier and brighter conditions developing elsewhere. There'll be a risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms, with some showers falling as sleet or snow and temperatures reaching just 2 to 4 degrees. There'll be wintry showers in western coastal areas on Thursday night. It'll be drier elsewhere with clear spells and a sharp ground frost leading to some icy patches. Very cold with lows of -4 degrees.

Friday

Friday will be another cold day. A dry and bright start in many areas, but showers will continue in western coastal areas, some heavy and wintry with the risk of hail. Cloud will build across the north and east through the evening, bringing further widespread wintry showers. Afternoon temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees. Friday night will bring further showers, most frequent along coasts. Elsewhere will become drier overnight with clear spells. Not quite as cold as Thursday night with lowest temperatures of 1 degree.
