Seans Bar is just a casual is 1,120 years old.
A popular French history podcast has posted a graphic listing the 32 oldest businesses currently still in operation around the globe, and coming in at number 10 is an iconic Irish pub.
Seans Bar in Athlone was established in the year 900AD, and is comfortably the oldest pub in Ireland, and even holds the mantle as the oldest pub in Europe as certified by a Guinness World Record to prove it.
But now The French History Podcast has given it the title of being one of the oldest continually operating premises in the world - reports the Irish Post.
The podcast is a very well respected series which documents French history going back 3 million years, so it's far to say they know their stuff.
The oldest corporations in the world. The Monnaie de Paris is among the oldest, and has been in operation since 864, when Charles the Bald was king of France. (Charles was Charlemagne's grandson). pic.twitter.com/QAwh5Qvj5O

In fact according to the podcast, Seans was listed as the oldest pub in the world, slightly ahead of The Bingly Arms in the UK.
The majority of the list is made up of hotels, however the title of the oldest business still in existence goes to Kongo Gumi, a Japanese construction company, which was established in 578A, a whopping 1,442 years ago, incredible.
Seans is currently still closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but could be set to reopen later this month when phase 4 of the governments road map kicks in on July 20th.
