Sean Nolan was today sentence to life in prison.
The son of a woman murdered in her home by her boyfriend has told the Central Criminal Court how finding his mother’s lifeless body in her bed has changed his life forever.
He was speaking at the sentence hearing of Sean Nolan (36), of Ashington Crescent, Navan Road, Dublin, who was convicted of strangling Amanda Carroll (34) to death in October 2018.
Nolan was today handed a life sentence for the terrible crime.
In his victim impact statement, Denis Carroll said the sight of his murdered mother will never leave his mind.
"It changed my life. I was only 16 at the time," he said. " I'm not the same man. It broke me physically and mentally.
"She didn't deserve to die like this. No human being should ever be killed by strangulation."
One of the victims sisters called him a 'monster' and told him to 'rot in hell' as he was being led away to begin his sentence this afternoon.
Outside court afterwards, Amanda's brother Gerard said the family would never forgive Nolan for what he did, but he said the murder conviction was of some comfort to them.
''I feel this does put a bit of closure on it as a family, it's been extremely hard on my father, but as a unit we always stick together and get through hard times and this will be no different''.
