A man has admitted causing his girlfriend’s death at her home in Dublin but has pleaded NOT guilty to her murder.

Sean Nolan, of Ashington Crescent, Navan Road, Dublin, is accused of murdering Amanda Carroll in her bedroom following a binge drinking session.

Prosecuting barrister Shane Costelloe told the jurors it would be alleged that Sean Nolan strangled Amanda Carroll at her apartment Cabra in the early hours of Oct 21st 2018 following an all-day drinking session.

Furthermore, he said it was the State’s case that when he placed a hand over her mouth and another on her neck, he intended to kill her or cause her serious harm.

Mr Nolan, a 36-year-old electrician, acknowledges that he killed her, but claims it was unintentional.

Mr Costello said they’ll also hear from her eldest son, who was the one who found her body in her bed the following morning.

He said Ms Carroll and Mr Nolan had been together for four months, and he claimed their relationship often turned volatile when excessive alcohol was consumed.

Mr Nolan’s manslaughter plea wasn’t accepted by the DPP, his trial for murder is due to last up to three weeks.
