It's an area near where the new prime suspect used to live.

Police in Germany investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are searching a garden allotment site near the city of Hanover.

German prisoner Christian B is now the prime suspect in Madeline's disappearance, who vanished on May 3rd 2007 during a family holiday in the Algarve while her parents were dining with friends.

The area that police are searching is close to where the 43-year-old suspect lived.

A number of trees have been cleared with a mini excavator, and forensic officers are on location as part of the investigation.

"I can confirm that the search is being carried out in connection with our investigations into the Maddie McCann case," Brunswick prosecutor Julia Meyer told AFP, when asked about the move first reported by local newspaper Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung.

German public prosecutors have said they believe she is dead.
