All clothes deserve some re-love.
October is national reuse month in Ireland, and to mark the occasion secondary students around the country have the opportunity to get creative and win big for a great cause.
The month is all about how we can reduce our impact on the planet by cutting down on waste, and is spearheaded by the Rediscovery Centre, the National Centre for the Circular Economy.
The main focus of the centre is pioneering a movement to connect people, ideas and resources to support greener low-carbon living.
And as a society, one of the major areas where we can improve in reducing waste is fast fashion.
An estimated 93% of all textile waste in Ireland is sent to landfill, a figure Rediscover Fashion, the Rediscovery Centre's department for 'up cycling' fashion, would like to greatly reduce.
So, that's why it's giving fashion keen secondary students with an environmental eye a brilliant chance to show their creativity and win big for their school.
The Re-Love fashion competition.
It's called the Re-Love Fashion Competition, and it encourages applicants to take a deeper look at how their clothing is made.
The aim is for each entrant to source clothing from a charity shop, swap shop or reuse items already available at home - and turn them into an amazing creation, by up-cycling, repairing, altering and mending.
The eventual winner will receive a trophy and a design pack to the value of €1000 (Including, tools, equipment and mentoring from Rediscover Fashion) for their school.
While all regional finalists will receive a school tour and a fashion workshop at the Rediscovery Centre.
How it'll work.
Each entrant will be marked on their outfit, storyboard and submission form.
Marks will be allocated as follows:
- Style & Creativity 20%
