Seven Pomeranian puppies believed to be five or six weeks old have been discovered in the boot of car in Co Kildare.
Gardai at a speed checkpoint on the M7 near junction 14 Monasterevin stopped and searched a vehicle on Saturday.
They then soon found the pups, who had not been vaccinated or microchipped, in the boot.
The driver had no paperwork, and the animals were seized by gardai and handed over to an animal shelter.
The adorable dogs have been taken into the care of Kildare & West Wicklow SPCA (KWWSPCA) while Gardaí continue their investigation.
A sporkesperson for the Kildare & West Wicklow SPCA said: ''Please do not contact us in regards to rehoming these pups.
''If and when we can rehome them we will post them. They are now in the care of our animal welfare officer and the gardai are investigating.
''As of now the pups who are 6wks old are doing well. Thank you''.
