Pubs will still subject to any local restrictions that may be put in place.

The government has agreed to re-open pubs from September 21st.

Cabinet Ministers are meeting at the moment to discuss the impact of opening pubs in two weeks time.

The reopening of wet pubs will be subject to any local restrictions or lockdowns that might be put in place in the future.

Sinn Féin's Health Spokesman David Cullinane believes the pubs should be allowed to open.

''I'm of the view that we need to ensure that people can live with the virus'', he said.

''And living means not just going to work, school or college, we need to give people social outlets as well.

''I've always held a view that the pubs should be open on the same basis as the restaurants and pubs that serve food''.

However, Professor of Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, Tómas Ryan, doesn't think they should be allowed reopen right now.

''I can't understand why we're opening the pubs so soon after opening all the schools, colleges and University'', he said.

''It's an awful lot to be doing at the same time, while case are steadily increasing''.

Over the weekend, Fáilte Ireland released draft guidelines of how wet pubs may operate when they do reopen.
