Pubs will not be allowed to reopen next Monday amid concern at the increased rate of spread of the coronavirus.

The government has agreed to delay the move to Phase 4 of the reopening of the country as the case numbers continue to rise.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin says he knows the decision is a disappointment to many businesses. However he says its vital we continue to take a cautious approach.

Elsewhere, the 'green list' of countries for foreign travel has been reduced from 15 to 10. Gibraltar, San Marino, Cyprus, Malta and Monaco have been removed from the list and government advice remains to stay in Ireland, where possible.

It will also be mandatory for people to wear face coverings in shops and shopping centres from Monday.

The news comes as figures released today show that 45 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported. There have also been no new deaths.

Of today's numbers, 33 cases are located in County Kildare and 77% are under the age of 45. The total case number is 26,253 and the death toll stands unchanged, at 1,763.
