The 23 and 17 year olds spent 15 hours in the water.
The RNLI says two women, rescued from the sea off the Aran Islands in Galway, remained calm in difficult conditions.
The 23 and 17 year olds, who are cousins, spent fifteen hours in the water after setting off paddle-boarding from Furbo last night.
A major search operation swung into action involving a number of agencies.
Galway fisherman Patrick Oliver and his son Morgan discovered the women on their paddle-boards clinging to a lobster pot close to Inis Oir.
Barry Heskin, from Galway RNLI says the weather conditions overnight were not good.
''They must've been very calm and collected to stay together'', he said.
''Because it turned out to be a very nasty night, it was lashing rain, thunder and wind and a lot of boats out there looking for them.
''So from their point of view they were probably watching lights and boats pass them all the way during those 15 hours''.
Divisional controller at Valentia Coastguard, John Draper, says today's rescue demonstrates the importance of letting people onshore know your plans in advance.
''When there is concern from a member of the public ashore who is the shore contact, make sure you get that call in early, so as to allow us to plan and get our resources out there early and start searching'', he said.
''In this case today, very happy, very relieved to get that result''.
