The house was torn down to make way for a luxury hotel and apartments.
Dublin City Council is investigating the facts around the demolition of a home which belonged to a leader in the 1916 Rising.
The home of Michael Joseph O’Rahilly, at 40 Herbert Park in Ballsbridge, was pulled down early this morning to make way for a luxury hotel and apartments at the prime Dublin 4 location.
The demolition went ahead despite city councillors voting to protect the house as a listed building earlier this month.
Sinn Fein's Chris Andrews says it's a huge loss to the city.
''The same people who are complaining about the closure of a pub, The Bernard Shaw, are very silent on this'', he said.
''It would be nice to see the same people who were concerned about our culture and heritage around the closure of that pub mobilise and be more involved in this.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin also weighed in on the matter today, telling the Dail: "I don’t believe that buildings of this historic value should be demolished.''
