On street seating charges for cafes, pubs and restaurants are being waived for businesses in Galway.

It'll cost the local authority €40,000 euro. The incentive is designed to help firms get back on their feet when the green light is given to reopen.

Director of Services at Galway City Council Brian Barrett says they will still need to register for a permit:

"We feel that they are now starting to prepare to open for a summer of some sort" he explained.

"We hope we will have limited restrictions as possible but we want to give them comfort that they can extend their service provision for food and drink service outdoors and give them ample time to plan for that."
