They're the first cases in the country for more than three weeks, and the country it had declared itself rid of Covid-19 in the meantime.
Health officials say they hadn't come into contact with anybody, however it has still sparked a round of testing including of passengers and staff on their flight.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern warned that new cases may come up in the future as New Zealanders return home, and some others were allowed in under special conditions.
New Zealand has so far had 22 deaths from the virus.
