WHY is this not a global holiday?

Finally, an excuse to crack open a jar of Nutella without feeling an ounce of guilt.

Today marks World Nutella Day.

It was first celebrated in 2007 after an American blogger living in Italy, Sara Rosso, decided her favourite spread needed a day of recognition.

Now, the day is celebrated by the company that makes Nutella, Ferrero. They even have a website dedicated to all that's brilliant about the chocolate hazelnut spread.

Want to celebrate the day yourself? Here are five easy Nutella recipes you can try today.

1. Nutella Brownies

This is a handy three-ingredient recipe from Tasty.com that's pretty much foolproof. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 370g Nutella
  • 2 eggs
  • 65g flour

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 175ºC.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ingredients.
  3. Transfer mix to square baking dish.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes.
  5. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and then carefully cut into squares.
  6. Enjoy!

2. Nutella Cheesecake

This decadent cheesecake recipe comes from the master herself, Nigella Lawson, so you just know it's going to be a winner!

Ingredients:

  • 250g digestive biscuits
  • 75g soft unsalted butter
  • 400g Nutella
  • 100g chopped hazelnuts
  • 500g cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 60g icing sugar (sifted)

Method:

  1. Break the digestives into the bowl of a processor, add the butter and a 15ml tablespoon of Nutella, and blitz . Add 25g of the hazelnuts and continue to pulse until you have a damp, sandy mixture.
  2. Tip into a 23cm/9inch round springform tin and press into the base either using your hands or the back of a spoon. Place in the fridge to chill.
  3. Beat the cream cheese and icing sugar until smooth and then add the remaining Nutella to the cream cheese mixture, and continue beating until combined.
  4. Take the base out of the fridge and carefully smooth the Nutella mixture over it. Scatter the remaining chopped hazelnuts on top to cover and place the tin in the fridge for at least four hours or overnight.

3. Cupcakes with Nutella

This simple cupcake recipe comes from the official Nutella site and looks perfect to create with kids!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Eggs
  • 100g soft butter
  • 100g sugar
  • 100g plain flour
  • ½ sachet of baking powder
  • 120g Nutella

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Whisk the butter and the sugar together. Break the eggs into a bowl and gently beat them, then progressively mix them into the prepared mixture. Add the flour and the baking powder and mix.
  2. Line the cupcake moulds with paper cases and fill them 2/3 full with the batter. Put them into the oven for 10 minutes or until they're golden.
  3. Let them cool and then use a teaspoon to remove approximately 1cm of the mixture from inside each cupcake. Keep these top pieces and cut them in half.
  4. Fill a piping bag with Nutella, fill in the holes in the cakes and then place the top pieces you've cut in half to form the shape of butterfly wings.

4. Nutella Mug Cake

This is another solid recipe from Tasty.com. It makes two mug cakes so grab your housemate, your sibling or your other half and get baking!

  • 300 g Nutella

  2. Fold in the flour.
  3. Evenly distribute into two mugs.
  4. Microwave each mug for 2 minutes.
  5. Cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Frost with remaining chocolate hazelnut spread and serve warm.

5. Nutella Hot Chocolate

This is probably one of the easiest recipes on this list so you've no excuse not to give it a go.

  • 2 tablespoons of Nutella
  • 250ml milk

  1. Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until steaming (not boiling), stirring occasionally.
