New guidelines come into effect today.

Anyone wishing to visit a loved one in a nursing home is being asked to call ahead.

New guidelines come into effect today that allow for the phased return of visits to nursing homes.

Visits to nursing homes were banned back in March in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Today, some nursing homes are allowed to let family and friends indoors, but they can only come one at a time, by appointment and will have their temperature checked on arrival.

Residents of nursing homes accounted for the majority of deaths as a result of the coronavirus in Ireland.

People are being advised to call ahead to check local arrangements as visiting is introduced on a phased basis.
