The National Public Health Emergency Team is to come under increasing pressure to relax restrictions for non-essential retail.
It's meeting today to discuss the progress made since level 5 came into effect.
In the two weeks since Level 5 was implemented there have been encouraging signs of improvement. The 'R' number is now below 1, and the 14 incidence rate is now 212 per 100,000, compared to 291 on the day the measures took effect.
When the six-week lockdown was announced, the country was told this would be reviewed four weeks in.
Now, Retail Ireland wants NPHET to advise that non-essential retail can reopen at a time that is crucial for business owners.
The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 hasn't dropped significantly since level 5 was brought in, but Immunology expert, Professor Kingston Mills has said hospitalisation figures take longer to reflect restrictions.
NPHET is meeting to discuss the country's progress and will provide an update this evening.
