The National Public Health Emergency team met this morning.
The National Public Health Emergency team has met this morning as it warns that we are in a period of exponential growth.
The Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan says he's more worried now than he was when NPHET last met on Sunday.
The situation since Government rejected the recommendation to move to level 5, has deteriorated rapidly, with NPHET warning that there is no county that is NOT a cause for concern.
Last Wednesday, the average daily number of cases being reported stood at 332. Yesterday, it was 509. If nothing changes, it's predicted that there will be over 1,000 cases a day by the start of next month.
The 14-day incidence rate last Wednesday was 88.5 people infected per 100,000. However by yesterday it reached 124 per 100,000.
The question now is, what will NPHET recommend today if they're more worried now than they were four days ago, when their recommendation was rejected.
Any recommendation made today is unlikely to be considered until tomorrow afternoon, when the covid cabinet sub-committee is scheduled to meet.
