But it could take a while.
So turns out we may get to discover what happens with Marianne and Connell after all.
After Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson teased "revisiting" them in five years, for season 2 of Normal People.
The show was a huge hit both here and abroad, and the prospect of a second season (albeit a looooong way off) has us pretty gosh damn pumped.
Speaking to Deadline, Lenny confirmed: "We've talked about the possibility of how interesting it would be to check back in with them".
However, he added that "apart from just general musings and over a drink", no concrete conversations had gone on.
He added: "As Sally [Rooney] says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right.
"But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I'd love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are.
"Is somebody a father or a mother? What relationships are they in that then get disrupted by their meeting again?
These are all very, very valid questions indeed! But why the five year wait?
He explained further: "But it would be really strange to pick that up eight weeks later with him traveling to New York, I think. There needs to be time."
Look, while we wish a second season could just magically appear here and now, if does take five whole years, we're willing to wait it out.
