Boris Johnson's announced a tightening of coronavirus restrictions in England - which he says could be in place for six months.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Boris Johnson has outlined a number of new restrictions to tackle a recent spike in Covid-19 cases. It comes ahead of his address to the nation this evening.

In his address to the commons, Boris Johnson has urged people to work from home wherever possible. He has announced that bars and restaurants in England will have to close at 10 o'clock every night from Thursday. No more than 15 people will be allowed to attend weddings from Monday.

The move follows a rise in new coronavirus cases, with a warning the UK's facing 50,000 a day by mid-October if the current rates continue. However, the news of further restrictions has been met with anger by some in the hospitality sector.

Meanwhile, new restrictions in Northern Ireland will take effect from 6 o'clock this evening. Indoor household gatherings will be banned and only six people from two households will be allowed to gather in private gardens.

More than 1,000 new infections have been identified in the six counties over the past week.
