Limerick County and City Councils are accepting name suggestions for their new gritting vehicles.

The most "weird, wacky and wonderful" names suggested will be chosen for the five new specialised vehicles with a special prize for the overall winner.

A number of UK councils have been naming their winter machines in recent years. Names including "Gritney Spears", "Brad Gritt" and "Gritsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Anti-Slip Machinery" have all been used there.

Anyone who wants to try naming the Limerick gritters can do so on this website. The closing date is Sunday 21st February.

After that date, a shortlist of names will be published on their Twitter with the public having the final say on names.
