Over 12,000 students have appealed.

One in five students have appealed the calculated grades they received for the Leaving Certificate in 2020.

In total 12,292 students have lodged an appeal compared to 9,049 last year.

The process to lodge an application closed yesterday with students asking for 33,677 grades to be re-examined.

The appeal will be judged on the re-checking of data transfer of a student’s results from their school through the various stages of calculated grades system.

If a student is still unhappy with their grade after the appeals process, they can opt to sit the exam in November in one or more subjects.

They will then have two grades – the calculated grade and their exam grade – but the higher of the two will be the final result in that subject.
