The new movie, Spencer, is set for production in 2021.
Kristen Stewart will play Princess Diana in a new film.
The movie, called Spencer, will document Diana's life in the early 90s.
Reports suggest that the film is being written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Pablo Larraín, who was assistant director on the film Jackie. The movie will be set in Sandringham at around the time Diana realised her marriage is on the rocks.
Larraín told Deadline why he felt Kristen was perfect for the role:
"Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need."
"The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see. I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time."
Spencer will depict a weekend in the early 90s when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles was no longer working and decided she needed to veer away from life as a royal.
Production for the movie is expected to start in early 2021.
