A new survey has examined how we use our phones.
A third of Irish people check their phone within 5 minutes of waking up.
87% say they look at it within the first hour of getting up, according to a new survey from Deloitte.
Deloitte's Digital Consumer Trends report has found people pick up their phone 58 times per day on average. That fluctuates among the different age demographics, with 17% of 18 to 24 year olds looking at their phones over 200 times, and that falls to 1 in 10 people between the ages of 25 and 34.
62% use their phone to check bank balances, with over half browsing through shopping websites and apps.
Over a quarter of the 1,000 people surveyed use their phones to make reservations while 16% do their online grocery shopping on mobile.
Phones have replaced laptops as the preferred device for making online purchases among the 18-24s and 35-44s.
However, it was tablet devices which saw the biggest increase in ownership, going from 43% last year to over 60 this year.
