A Garda investigation has been launched after a man was found unconscious in Co. Monaghan last night.
The man was found with serious head injuries on O'Neill Street in Carrickmacross shortly before midnight.
He has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.
O'Neill Street in Carrickmacross has been closed and diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 9690190.
