Ireland has seen a 38% increase in the 14-day incidence rate of Covid 19. New figures show the national total now stands at 158.5 per 100,000 of the population.
As figures up North surge, so too do the counties that border it. Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal have a rate of infection of more than 300 per 100,000 of the population.
221 people are currently in hospital nationwide with Covid 19 with 30 of those being treated in intensive care.
Elsewhere today, the World Health Organisation said the Government’s Level 3 strategy is "risky" and it’s hard to tell if it’s the right path.
The Government and the National Public Health Emergency Team have clashed over the coronavirus strategy with Ministers opting less restrictive measures than Tony Holohan wanted. The Chief Medical Officer will update the country on the latest figures and strategy at a press conference this evening.
